The Defense Department already had a site when TechMethods was engaged for this project, but their old site had constant maintenance hassles and inadequate security. They wanted a site that would allow them to change over 100 documents a day, in six different languages, by non-technical personnel.
Solution
To tackle their problem, we decided on the creation of a publishing system that uses the built-in features of a common word processing - Word - to serve as a foundation for the computer code, while allowing the site visitor to select the language they want to see the information in. The application designed by TechMethods then dynamically creates the article for each specific user. The site's security was bolstered by the combination of the Windows NT security model implementing SQLServer. Despite regular attempts by hackers, Balkan-Info.com has experienced no downtime due to malicious action.
With the new site and custom application, the Defense Department was able to reduce their maintenance time from over eight hours to less than 2.5 hours - a savings of thousands of dollars annually.
